The Kaiōko Commitment
At Kaiōko, we believe that jewellery should be as intentional as it is beautiful. Our pieces are more than just beautiful pieces of wearable art; they are a bridge between our studio in the UK and the hands of master artisans in Africa and Asia.
To keep the heart of "handmade" beating, we have committed to a sustainable cycle of support that grows with every piece we create.
Our 5% Promise
5% of every sale you make is dedicated to an artisan-focused fund. Rather than a one-time donation, we use these funds to provide micro-loans through Kiva, a global non-profit that empowers entrepreneurs in underserved communities. We specifically target our support toward makers and traditional craftspeople in the regions where our materials originate.
How It Works: The Cycle of Craft
• Empowerment: When you purchase a piece of Kaiōko jewellery, a portion of that sale goes directly toward funding a loan for an artisan. This might help a bead maker in Kenya buy new organic materials or a metalworker in India purchase raw brass in bulk.
• Sustainability: Unlike traditional charity, these are loans. As the artisans grow their businesses and succeed, they pay the loan back.
• Once a loan is repaid, we don’t take the money back. We reinvest it into a new loan for another artisan.
Why Kiva?
We chose Kiva because it mirrors our values of slow, soulful craft. It isn't a handout; it’s an investment in a person’s talent and future. By "recycling" our fund, your single purchase today helps support a chain of makers for years to come.
When you shop with us, you are a direct partner in this mission. You aren't just buying jewellery; you are helping to keep traditional heritage crafts alive in a world of mass production where these artisans are abandoning their trades to find work in the cities to survive.
Together, we are making the world a little more handmade.
Thank you for being part of a journey that values the hands of makers everywhere.
